One test on Sports Science today was the test if a batter warming up before hitting with a donut on a bat.

They were testing if it actually helped.

The outcome was that it was actually work as a heavier bat (the one with a donut) works the wrong muscle fibers. Swinging with a similar weight works the white muscle fibers that are for speed. The results slow the bat speed down by almost 1 mph which is significant and also caused the batter to consistently miss the sweet spot

So do not put the purchase of a donut(unless covered with chocolate and sprinkles) in the baseball budget this year

They also tested this with the swinging of multiple golf clubs when warming up. It showed that the sweet spot would not be hit when compared to not warming up with multiple clubs

It's hard to change a teenagers psyche when the weight makes his game bat feel lighter.  I never let my teams have a weight during a game when I was a HC.  I had heard about this a long time ago.  Kids hated me for it, but we always hit.
