“PYRAMID“PYRAMID OF SUCCESS”  SUCCESS”
by
John Bronkhorst

To achieve success for 2003 we had to put together a basic offensive philosophy that the kids would believe in.  I came up with what I call the “Pyramid of Success”.  We basically made a pyramid and broke it up into 4 levels:

Level 1:  SET THE FOUNDATION

To get to the TOP, we must start at the bottom and work our way up one step at a time.  We will begin our ascent by striving to become masterful at the FUNDAMENTALS of our offensive positions.  We must become highly proficient at all of these techniques.

BLOCKING-PASSING-CATCHING-RUNNING

Level 2:  THE HEART

Striving for excellence as an Offense, we must know our assignments extremely well, and be able to keep focus at all times throughout the game from START to FINISH.  PERFECT BALL SECURITY, also known as “PBS” will be the HEART of our pyramid.

ASSIGNMENTS-PBS-FOCUS

Level 3:  MENTALITY

No matter what the situation may be, we must constantly practice and play with a POSITIVE ATTITUDE.  At the same time, we must always give great EFFORT in everything we do.

ATTITUDE-EFFORT

Level 4:  SUMMIT

If we can master the fundamentals, stay focused on the task at hand, and do all of this with tremendous attitude and relentless effort, we will experience a very satisfying and rewarding success in 2003. “FIST”

“FINISH IT STRONG TOGETHER”

OFFENSIVE PHILOSOPHY

1)       BE FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND

Ball exchange, blocking, protection, passing, catching, running

2)       HAVE THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF OUR SYSTEM

We will be able to teach our base offense in the first week of camp; these plays will be the “core plays” for the whole season.  We will become very proficient at “Situational Offense”.

3)       PERFECT BALL SECURITY

PBS

4)       SPREAD THE FIELD

We will use 4 receivers most every play.  This will greatly enhance our ability to recognize defensive coverages.  We will “Read the Box” to best determine whether to run or pass.  We will throw to the uncovered receiver to prevent defensive overcrowding in the box.

5)       ATTACK ON ANY DOWN, FROM ANYWHERE ON THE FIELD, AT ANYTIME

We love to pass the ball, however, we realize that a pass is no better than a run.  Whatever it takes to get the job done-that job is a TOUCHDOWN!!

6)       ATTACK THE BLITZ

“See it, Protect it, Attack it” – We will use quick passes and screens.  We must make them nervous to bring pressure.

7)       CREATE MISMATCHES

We will be able to place receivers in non-traditional alignments as to create mismatches vs. weak links in defensive personnel.

8)       STAY OFFENSIVE – KEEP THEIR DEFENSE “DEFENSIVE”

We will attack them at every gap.  We will pass to every eligible receiver.  We will slow down their pass rush with draws, traps, and screens.  We will stress them with formations, snap counts and tempo changes.

9)       ELIMINATE THINGS WHICH CAN CAUSE DEFEAT

Before a team can win, it must learn to eliminate the things which can cause it to lose.  Fumbles, sacks, interceptions, penalties.

10)  ATTITUDE + EFFORT = SUCCESS --------------> HAVE FUN!!!

Positive attitude and tremendous effort will give us the best chance for great success which leads to BIG FUN!!!
